Portuguese Braised Steak & Onions



This Portuguese-inspired dish combines tender braised steak with savory onions and aromatic spices for a comforting meal that's perfect for any occasion. The slow cooker method ensures that the flavors meld together beautifully, resulting in a dish that's rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying.

Ingredients:

  • 5 kg beef steak, sliced into strips
  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

Put olive oil in a pan and heat it over medium-high heat

Brown the beef strips all over in a pan, then put them in the slow cooker

Add the onions and garlic to the same pan and cook them until they get soft

Season with salt and pepper and then add the paprika, cumin, oregano, thyme, and bay leaves

Add the red wine and stir it in, making sure to scrape up any browned bits on the bottom of the pan

Mix the tomato paste and beef broth together by stirring them in

Add the mix to the slow cooker with the beef strips

On low heat, cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours, or until the beef is soft

If you want, you can serve it hot with fresh parsley on top
